Story
I was very slack last year not undertaking any outrageous fund raising adventures, largely due to one of my close friends having had a bone marrow transplant. This is someone who has run most of the Marathons with me and went to Mt Pisco, in Peru 2 years ago, (that's us with our Guide to the right in Peru), so I really had to act as his support during this time. He is doing wonderfully well.
2014 is different! Mera Peak is in the Himalayas and is just over 21 thousand feet....2000 feet higher than the last one! The whole trip will take 17 days and the summit view will let us have a good look at Mt Everest! (I promise never to attempt Mt Everest!)
Over the years we have together raised more than $750,000 towards our Research Program in Ovarian Cancer, During that time we have seen some terrific outcomes and we now consider ovarian malignancy as a chronic condition with women living much longer than when I started out as a young doctor.
So progress is being made, but obviously not fast enough, so any money that we raise together will be used towards our immune studies and also in the development of our ovarian cancer vaccine which I think holds great promise for the future.
Please remember that even small amounts of money mount up and I am most grateful to you all for your wonderful support over the years.
Will it be my last? Never say never!
Thank you all again for your help with this very important venture. ...I leave on the 3rd of April.
PS. It just so happens that I turn 65yo on the 18th of April, which I think would make for a fantastic day to reach our target!
Activity
Women's Cancer Foundation (ANZGOG)
2 out of 3 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die.... Please, help us turn the tide.
The Women’s Cancer Foundation was established in 1996 to raise funds for research into ovarian cancer. We have raised millions of dollars to fund researchers looking for more effective ways to treat and care for women suffering with ovarian cancer...because sadly, 2 out of 3 Australian women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die.
Our goal is to reduce the mortality rate from this malignancy, by:
Engaging in international clinical trials;
Finding ways to reverse resistance to cancer drugs;
Researching how best to use a woman's own immune system to combat the disease.
Please help – donate today.
